La Penisola
Location address: Radda in Chianti - Siena
Located 3km from the town of Radda in Chianti is La Penisola, a 300 year old farm house, which has been beautifully restored by the owner. Built into the hillside overlooking the Volpaia valley, this split level villa is a wonderful relaxing place to spend your holiday.

Situated at the rear of the house on a lower level, reached via a flight of stone steps is the swimming pool. The paved surround is furnished with loungers and there is also a covered gazebo to retreat under during the heat of the day. Relaxing by the pool you have far reaching views of the valley below and the surrounding vineyards and olive groves.

Outside the villa is surrounded by mature trees and shrubs, and from almost every angle there are breathtaking views.

La Penisola is located on the edge of the world famous Chianti Cashmere farm  which specializes in hand-woven cashmere and skincare products made from goat's milk. At the nearby farm, the owner offers clients tastings of their goat's cheese, together with all the cashmere you can comb from the goats for free!

At the rear of the house is a vine covered pergola, under which there is a large wooden table and chairs.Nearby is a brick built barbecue making this a perfect spot for ‘al fresco’ cooking and dining.

The entrance leads into the lounge which has the traditional terracotta tiled floors and tiled and beamed ceiling, there is a huge stone fireplace which dominates the room.

There is a comfortable sofa arranged in front of the fireplace and a small table and chairs to one side. Floor to ceiling windows surround the room on three sides making this a very light airy room, these can be opened to allow the breeze to circulate. At the far end is a small scullery with stone sink, shelving and a fridge. To the right of the fireplace are some stone steps which lead up to the first floor.

The first floor is reached via a set of stone steps from the lounge and also via an open staircase from the dining room. Both arrive at either side of the landing which has been turned into a study area with antique writing desk, chair, sofa and bookshelves along two of the walls.

To the right of the landing is the twin bedded room with large wooden hand painted wardrobe and chest of drawers. The beds can be pushed together if required.

To the left of the landing is the master bedroom, which has a double bed, walk in wardrobe with chest of drawers and ensuite bathroom with large shower with curtain, heated towel rail, basin and WC. All the rooms from the upper floor have windows with wonderful views over the surrounding countryside.

The lower floor overlooks the back of the house with views over the Volpaia valley and the surrounding vineyards. The well equipped kitchen has country style fitted cupboards and tiled work surfaces. There is a large fridge/freezer, oven with gas hobs and a microwave oven. Double doors lead from here out to the garden.

There is a large brick archway separating the kitchen area from the dining room, which has a round wooden table and chairs. A large dresser sits against one wall and there is a stove in one corner. An open staircase, not suitable for toddlers, leads to the first floor and to the right through an archway is an ‘L’ shaped corridor.

A door on the left off the corridor opens into the third bedroom which has a double bed with ornate scrolled iron headboard and a wooden wardrobe. A large mirror on the wall reflects the light from the rooms' two windows.

Further along the corridor off to the right is the downstairs bathroom which has a shower with curtain, basin and WC. At the end of the corridor is another door which leads out to the terrace and gardens.

A lovely old restored farmhouse in a great location.

Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, in a peaceful setting which is perfect for anyone wishing to relax and unwind.

What were the highlights of your holiday? Excellent countryside, good restuarants, fine wine. Very relaxing plus access to Florence, Siena and Chianti countryside
What was your overall impression of the accommodation?    Very good with lods of character and breathtaking views. But the quality of the poolside furniture was poor; two loungers were already broken and a further one broke during our stay. Very slight niggle - lack of knives, only 6 table knives.
Did you have any unpleasant surprises during your stay with us? Uncertain weather and empty pool. Access road very steep with some large holes - clear potential for exhaust damage with fully laden car. More precise warning would have been helpful.
Do you have any other comments regarding the accommodation or service? Enjoyed a very good holiday

Was waren die Highlights Ihres Urlaubs?

What were the highlights of your holiday? waking up to the fabulous view and coming back at the end of the day for drinks and dinner under the loggia
what was your overall impression of the accommodation?    La Penisola was very comfortable with excellent amenities, cooking, bathrooms etc. The view and location were perfect. Close enough to Radda for restuarant and shopping, but far away from traffic, people and noise. Would highly recommend this property for family with children (ours were 10 & 8)
Did you have any unpleasant surprises? none
Do you have any other comments? Nora was an excellent host with helpful information. Even brought in the washing as it started to rain while we were out

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
