Macina is a the smallest of the villas sleeping 2 people. It is located just off the small cobbled courtyard. It gets its name for the grind stone used for the fireplace.
The villa has two outside spaces. The first is a table and chairs directly outside the front door in the comunal courtyard, while the second is a part of a terrace about 20meters away. The large terrace is divided into two smaller private terraces, each furnished with a table, chairs, umbrella and sunbeds. From here there are open views of the Tuscan countryside.
The main living area of the villa is a lovely spacious room with a window looking onto the courtyard. It is comfortably furnished with two armchairs next to the fireplace, a Satellite TV, an antique wooden table with four chairs. In one corner is the kitchenette which has a small fridge with icebox, gas hobs and is adequately equipped for you holiday cooking.
Off the main living area is a small corridor which leads to a large bathroom with shower, and then onto a big bedroom with a double iron bed. The window of this room looks out onto the courtyard.
The entire villa is tastfully furnished with antiques, including the original thin wooden doors.

Sornano is a small traditional Tuscan hamlet nestled in the Chianti hills not far from Poggibonsi and Castellina in Chianti. The stone hamlet boasts excellent views of the vine and forest covered Chiant hills, onto San Gimignano. There are several sections to the hamlet and Antico Borgo di Sornano is the largest part.
The Antico Borgo di Sornano has a lovely pool built on the highest part of the hamlet. The large pool is surrounded by terraced lawns dotted with olive trees, sun beds and umbrella. The views are over the hamlet roof tops, onto the Tuscan valleys and hills topped with little villages, including San Gimignano.
This part of the hamlet consists of 5 villas. Three are rented on a permanent basis while two are rented occasionally. Surronding the property are other houses, however none of them overlook the pool area and there are no permanent residents, only locals who visit occasionally. None of the other houses have access to the pool.
When at Antico Borgo di Sornano make sure to ask the owners to show you the cellar carved into the hill side off the main courtyard with it's original wooden barrels and old wine bottles. Also to be seen is the old water well with it's iron manual pump.
Although children are welcome at the property it is not really recommended for young children as there are many narrow stone steps and various levels throughout the gardens and building area.
Pool Info
The pool is located in the highest part of the little hamlet. It is on a terraced area surrounded by olive trees. From the pool area there are fantastic views of the Chianti hills and Tuscan countryside over the hamlet rooftops.
The pool is accessed up a steepish cobbled path. It is surrounded by sunbeds and umbrella to enjoy a relaxing day admiring the views.
The pool is 12x6 meters and 1.2-1.8meters deep. It is open from mid June to 17th of September.

Nearest town
The closest town is Poggibonsi that is about 4km away, this is a working town where there is a large supermarket, other shops, restaurants and other amenities.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
